Upload books from any device on your local network.
📶 How It Works
The app runs a small web server on your device. Any computer or phone on the same WiFi network can open the upload page in a browser.
Go to Settings → Import Books → WiFi Transfer.
Tap Start Server. An address like http://192.168.1.42:8080 will appear.
Open that address in any web browser on the same network.
Drag files onto the page or click to browse — select a destination folder if you like.
Imported books appear in your library immediately.
Tap Stop Server when you’re done.
Tip: Your device will stay awake while the server is running so transfers aren’t interrupted.
Upload failed? Each failed file shows the reason inline. If the Wi-Fi connection drops, tap ↻ Retry on the row to send it again. Permanent problems (such as an unsupported file format) won’t show a Retry button.
Tap the Search pill at the bottom of the library to expand a search field, then tap Done to close it. It searches across title, author, tags, series, publisher, and description. Searching by author or tag from a book’s context menu (see Author & Tag Browsing) fills in the same search.
↕ Sort & Filter
Tap the view-options button (top right) to choose:
Layout — Grid, Detailed, Compact, Minimalist, Table, or Magazine
Sort — Title, Author, Last Read, Date Added, Progress, File Size, Series
Display — Put In-Progress books first and Completed books last
Filter — By format, tag, author, series, or rating
📚 Series
Turn on Group by Series under Layout in the view options and every series with two or more books in the folder you are looking at collapses into one stack showing a cover, the series name, and how many of its books you have read. Tap the stack to open the series screen: the books in reading order, plus a line saying which folders they live in when a series is spread across more than one. Long-press any book with series metadata and choose View Series to open the same screen. Group by Series is not available in the Table and Magazine layouts.
To see every series in your library at once, open the … menu and choose All Series. The series screen’s menu lets you Edit Order, Rename Series…, and change its Series Settings….
✔ Selection Mode
Long-press a book or tap Select to enter selection mode. You can then move, delete, hide, or unhide multiple books at once.
📋 Clean Duplicates
Go to Settings > Library > Library Maintenance > Clean Duplicates to find books with the same title, author, and format. For each duplicate group:
The newest version is marked with a green KEEP badge
Select older copies using checkboxes (or Select All)
Delete — removes the selected older copies
Copy Data & Delete — transfers bookmarks, highlights, tags, reading progress, and shelf assignment to the newest version before deleting
Enable "Move new book to old book's shelf & hidden status" to keep the new version in the same library location
EPUBs whose pages are fixed designs — comics, picture books, and heavily illustrated titles.
📐 What They Are
Some EPUBs are laid out page by page rather than as flowing text: every page is a fixed arrangement of words and artwork. The app recognizes these books on its own and opens them in a reader built for them — each page is scaled to fit your screen and centered, with the space around it filled in your reading theme’s background color.
👋 Reading & Zooming
Tap the left or right side of the screen to turn pages, or swipe. Tap the middle to show or hide the toolbars.
Pinch to zoom in — up to three times the fitted size — and drag to move around the page.
Double-tap to zoom in on that spot; double-tap again to fit the page back to the screen.
Books published to read right-to-left turn pages that way automatically.
📖 Two-Page Spreads
Turn the device to landscape and facing pages appear side by side. The app follows the spread hints inside the book itself, so a cover or a full-page illustration still gets a page of its own. Rotate back to portrait for one page at a time.
ℹ What’s Available
The table of contents, bookmarks, the progress slider, reading history, and resuming where you left off all work as usual.
Because each page is a fixed design rather than text the app can reflow, a few controls don’t appear for these books: Continuous Scroll and auto-scroll, the font and appearance settings, text-to-speech, in-book search, and text selection or highlighting.

🔍 Starting a Search
Tap the center of the page to show the toolbars.
Tap the magnifying glass at the right end of the bottom bar.
Type at least two characters and press Search on the keyboard.
The whole book is searched — every chapter, not just the one on screen — and matching ignores upper/lower case. Search is available in the EPUB and TXT/RTF readers.
📄 Browsing Results
Results appear below the search bar, grouped by chapter. Each row shows the match in bold inside a snippet of surrounding text. Tap a result to jump straight to that spot — every match is highlighted in yellow in the book, with the current one in a stronger amber.
↕ Jumping Between Matches
Once you pick a result, the search bar collapses to a compact strip with a counter showing where you are among the matches.
Use the up/down arrows to step to the previous or next match.
Tap the list button to reopen the full results list.
Tap × to end the search — all highlights are removed.

🖼 Opening the Gallery
Open an EPUB book’s detail page and tap the 🖼 photo-stack button in the top-right toolbar. The app extracts every image from the book, showing a progress bar while it works — tap the × button in the top-left to back out at any time. The gallery is available for EPUB books only.
📚 What You’ll See
Images appear one per page in reading order — the order they occur in the book’s chapters — including the cover. Tiny images such as icons and decorations are skipped: anything smaller than the minimum size (100 px by default) is left out. Adjust the threshold in Settings → Reading Preferences → Books → EPUB Gallery. If no image qualifies, the gallery tells you it found none.
👆 Viewing & Saving Images
Swipe to move between images, or use the page slider at the bottom to jump quickly.
Pinch or double-tap to zoom, then drag to move around — the gallery uses the comic reader, so it zooms exactly the same way. See Zooming Comic Pages.
Tap the center of the screen to show or hide the controls.
Long-press an image for View Full Resolution — which opens it at its original size for a closer look — or to Save to Photos, Save to Files, or Copy Image.
The gallery follows your comic reading direction — including webtoon-style vertical scrolling.
Choose a reading font, add your own, or download language packs.
🔤 Choosing a Font
Open Settings → Reading Preferences → Books → Custom Fonts to reach the Fonts screen. Several reading fonts are built in, with Literata as the default. The font you choose applies to the EPUB and text readers.
Tip: Adjust font size and line spacing in Settings → Reading Preferences → Books.
👓 Accessibility Fonts
Two fonts designed for easier reading are bundled and always available: Atkinson Hyperlegible, which sharpens the differences between similar letters, and OpenDyslexic, weighted to reduce letter swapping.
📂 Custom Fonts
Import your own .ttf or .otf font files from the Fonts screen and use them in the EPUB reader. Imported fonts stay on your device.
📥 Download Fonts & Language Packs
Under Download Fonts, extra reading fonts and language packs are available on demand for scripts the app does not ship — Chinese, Japanese & Korean (CJK), Arabic, Devanagari, and Thai. Packs are large (around 41 MB each), so the size is shown before you download. Once installed, they work exactly like imported fonts.
Tip: If a book’s characters show as empty boxes, download the matching language pack to display them.
📜 Font Licenses
The bundled and downloadable fonts are provided under the SIL Open Font License. You can read the full license for any of them from its row on the Fonts screen.
Left-to-right, right-to-left, or whichever way the book was published.
⇄ Choosing a Direction
Open Settings → Reading Preferences → Books and use the Reading Direction control under Reading Mode:
Automatic (default) — follows the direction the book itself declares. Manga and books published to read right-to-left open the right way round with nothing to set up.
Left to Right — standard for most Western books.
Right to Left — use right-to-left for every book.
You can also change it without leaving the book: tap the center of the page to show the toolbars, then tap the Aa button in the bottom bar. The change takes effect on the page you’re reading straight away.
👋 What Follows the Direction
Which side moves you forward — in a right-to-left book, tapping or swiping leftwards turns to the next page.
The page-turn animation, which turns from the correct side.
The layout of the text on the page.
Note: The progress slider always fills from the left, because it shows how far through the book you are rather than where the page sits on screen.
ℹ Where It Applies
This setting is for EPUBs in page-turn mode — it is hidden while Continuous Scroll is on. Comics have their own reading-order setting (see Reading Comics), and fixed-layout books always follow the direction declared in the book.
Japanese and Chinese books typeset in vertical columns.
⬇ Vertical Books
Books typeset vertically — Japanese tategaki (縦書き) and traditional Chinese (直排) — are shown the way they were set: the text runs from top to bottom in columns that fill from right to left, and pages turn leftwards, the same way manga reads.
⚙ Writing Direction
Open Settings → Reading Preferences → Books and use the Writing Direction control:
Automatic (default) — follows each book’s own layout. A book that was typeset vertically is shown vertically; every other book is unaffected.
Horizontal — lay every book out horizontally, including one typeset vertically.
Vertical — lay every book out in vertical columns.
The same control is in the in-reader settings, under the Aa button.
Note: Changes apply the next time you open a book — the book already on screen keeps the layout it opened with.
ℹ Good to Know
Vertical books always use page-turn mode, so Continuous Scroll and auto-scroll aren’t available for them.
The slide page animation isn’t used for vertical books — they turn with the flip animation instead.
Bookmarks, highlights, the table of contents, in-book search, and text-to-speech all work as usual.
Left-to-Right — Standard Western comic page order.
Right-to-Left — Manga reading order.
Webtoon / Vertical Scroll — Smooth vertical scrolling for long-strip comics.
Set the global default in Settings → Reading Preferences → Comics, or override per book from its detail page.
🔎 Page Scaling
Fit to Screen — Full page visible.
Fit to Width — Fills the width, scroll vertically if needed.
Fit to Height — Fills the height.
Original Size — 1:1 pixel display.
👋 Gestures
Swipe left/right to turn pages (paginated modes).
Pinch or double-tap to zoom, then drag to move around. See Zooming Comic Pages.
Tap the center of the page to show or hide the toolbar.
Use the page slider at the bottom to jump quickly.
⚠ Suspicious Archive Prompt
When you open a comic archive (CBZ, CBR, or CB7) whose contents look unusually large or aggressively compressed — the kind of pattern used by “zip bomb” files designed to overload memory — the app shows a Suspicious Archive alert before extracting anything.
Tap Cancel to leave the file unopened. This is the safe choice for archives from unknown sources.
Tap Open Anyway if you trust the file — the app will skip the safety check and load the pages.
EPUB files use the same protection silently during import.
Get closer to the artwork — in page modes and webtoon scrolling alike.
🔍 Page Modes
Pinch to zoom in, up to three times the fitted size. The artwork stays under your fingers as you pinch.
Double-tap to jump to double size at that spot; double-tap again to fit the page back to the screen.
Drag with one finger to move around while zoomed in.
Pinching almost all the way back out snaps the page neatly to fit.
Zooming works with the Fit to Screen and Fit to Height scaling options, and with double-page spreads. Fit to Width and Original Size already show the page larger than the screen and scroll instead — use View Full Resolution below for a closer look there.
📱 Webtoon Scrolling
Pinch or double-tap to zoom the whole strip, up to three times its normal size.
Scrolling keeps working while you’re zoomed in — just drag up and down as usual.
Drag sideways to move across a zoomed page.
The zoom level stays put as you keep scrolling, so you can read a whole chapter enlarged. Rotating the device returns it to normal size.
✨ View Full Resolution
Zooming enlarges the page at the size it was prepared for your screen. For the sharpest possible look at one page, long-press it and choose View Full Resolution — that page is decoded at the archive’s original resolution, and you can pinch in much further. Double-tap toggles between fitting the screen and double size; swipe down or tap the close button to go back.
Note: Zoom isn’t saved. Closing the book always returns to the normal fit.
Open any EPUB, PDF, or TXT book and tap the play button in the toolbar. TTS reads one sentence at a time and highlights the current word.
Speed — 0.5× to 2× in the TTS controls.
Voice — Choose from 100+ system voices in Settings → Reading Preferences → Text-to-Speech.
Skip — Tap next/previous to jump by sentence, or by chapter.
Note:Fixed-layout books — comics and picture books whose pages are fixed designs — have no text for the app to read aloud, so the play button isn’t shown for them.
🚗 CarPlay
When connected to a CarPlay-compatible vehicle, the app appears on your car’s display with simplified playback controls. TTS continues playing in the background — no need to keep the screen on.
Tip: Enable Background AudioPremium in TTS settings to keep playback going when the app is in the background, even without CarPlay.
Uses an on-device machine learning model to upscale comic pages that are below a resolution threshold. The result is sharper lines and less visible compression artifacts — especially helpful for older or low-quality scans.
⚙ Setup
Go to Settings → Reading Preferences → Comics → AI Upscaling.
Toggle it on.
Adjust the Resolution Threshold — pages below this pixel width get upscaled (default: 1500 px).
Set Prefetch Window to control how many upcoming pages are pre-processed in the background.
Choose a Denoise Level (Auto is usually best).
💾 Cache & Storage
Upscaled images are cached so they don’t need to be reprocessed. Choose how long to keep the cache (7–90 days or never expire), and clear it any time from settings.
Tip: A small indicator badge appears on upscaled pages. You can turn this off in settings if you prefer.
Pull down on the library to activate Hidden Mode. All your books — both hidden and visible — are now shown. Pull again or leave the app to exit hidden mode.
🔒 Privacy Options
When hidden mode is active, go to Settings → Hidden Mode to choose what happens when you leave the app:
Auto-exit (default) — Hidden mode turns off automatically. Quick and simple.
Require Face ID / Touch ID — Hidden mode stays on, but requires biometric authentication when you return. More secure.
↩ Unhiding Books
While in hidden mode, open a hidden book’s detail and choose Unhide Book, or use Selection Mode to unhide in bulk.
☁ Syncing Hidden Books
In hidden mode, go to Settings → Hidden Mode and toggle Sync hidden books to iCloud:
Off (default) — hidden books stay only on this device. Hiding a book also removes it from iCloud.
On — hidden books sync through iCloud but stay hidden on every device you’re signed into.
Turning the toggle off while you have hidden books already in iCloud asks what to do with them:
Keep on all devices — your other devices keep their synced copies; this device keeps a private local-only copy.
Remove from iCloud entirely — removes the books from iCloud; each other device keeps its own private copy in its hidden library.
Note: If one of your other devices removes a hidden book from iCloud, this device automatically keeps its own private copy in the hidden library — as long as the book’s file had already been downloaded there.
🗑 Permanently Delete Hidden Books
In hidden mode, go to Settings → Hidden Mode and choose Permanently Delete Hidden Books to remove every hidden book from this device, from iCloud, and from your other devices. Type DELETE to confirm.
Warning: This can’t be undone. Devices that are offline at the time keep their local copies until they next sync.
Tap the bookmark icon in the reader toolbar to bookmark the current page. Add an optional note. View all bookmarks for a book from its detail page.
Note: Only bookmarks you create manually appear here. Positions the app saves automatically when you close a book are kept separately in Reading History so they don’t crowd out your own bookmarks.
🖍 HighlightsPremium
In EPUBs, select text to highlight it. Choose from five colors (yellow, pink, green, blue, orange) and add notes. All highlights are listed on the book’s detail page.
🏷 Tags
Add tags to any book from its detail page. Tags are searchable and can be used as library filters. Manage all tags from Settings → Tags.
Jump back to any position you’ve recently been at.
🕒 Automatic Saves
Every time you close a book or send the app to the background, your current position is saved as a history entry — no need to remember to bookmark. This works in every reader: EPUB, PDF, TXT/RTF, and comics.
Up to 50 recent positions are kept per book. Older entries are removed automatically as new ones come in.
Closing the book again at the same spot within a few minutes updates the existing entry instead of creating a duplicate.
Auto-saved positions are kept separate from your manual bookmarks list so they don’t mix with the ones you set on purpose.
📖 History Inside a Book
While reading, tap the overflow menu (…) in the top-right and choose Reading History. You’ll see a list of your recent positions in that book, newest first, with the chapter or page name and how long ago each one was recorded.
Tap any entry to jump straight to that spot.
Swipe left on an entry to remove it.
📚 History Across Your Library
From the library, tap the overflow menu (…) in the top toolbar and choose Reading History to see every book you’ve opened recently, grouped by day. Tap a row to open the book right where you left off.
From a book’s detail page, tap the menu (…) and choose Edit Metadata to change the title, author, series, description, and other fields. You can also re-extract metadata from the original file.
📋 ComicInfo.xml
Comic archives (CBZ, CBR, CB7) that contain a ComicInfo.xml file will have their metadata automatically extracted on import — including title, writer, series, issue number, summary, publisher, genre, and tags.
Your metadata, reading progress, bookmarks, highlights, and shelves sync across all devices signed into the same iCloud account.
📊 Sync Status
Settings → iCloud Sync shows a status card for your book files:
A headline — Up to date, Syncing… (with a count), or Not signed in.
A bar showing how much of your library’s files are in iCloud.
A breakdown — Synced (with total size), On iCloud only (not yet downloaded to this device), and In progress.
Note: This card tracks book files only. Reading progress, bookmarks, highlights, and shelves sync separately and automatically, regardless of file status.
☁ Cover Badges
Book covers show a small cloud glyph in the bottom-right corner to indicate file-sync state:
Cloud icon — the file is only in iCloud. Open the book’s page to download it.
Up/down arrows — the file is currently uploading or downloading.
No glyph — the file is already on this device.
📥 Auto-Download
Choose the maximum file size for automatic downloads. Larger books stay in the cloud until you open them. Adjust the limit in iCloud settings.
Browse and download from remote servers and catalogs.
🗄 WebDAV
Connect to a NAS, Nextcloud, or Calibre server to browse folders and download books.
Go to Settings → Import Books → WebDAV.
Tap Add Server and enter the URL.
Add username and password if required.
Tap Test Connection, then save.
Self-signed certificates: If your server uses a self-signed certificate you can turn on Allow Untrusted Certificates. The app asks you to confirm first — this disables TLS validation, so anyone on your network could impersonate the server. Only enable it for a server you control.
📚 OPDS Catalogs
OPDS is an open standard for book catalogs. Add public catalogs (Project Gutenberg, Standard Ebooks, etc.) or your own private server.
Go to Settings → Import Books → OPDS.
Tap Add Catalog and enter the feed URL.
Browse categories and download books to your library.
Go to Settings → General and turn on Resume last book on launch. The next time you open the app, it will jump straight to the book and page you were last reading.
Hidden books: If the last book you read is hidden, the app will ask for Face ID / Touch ID before resuming. Enable Resume hidden book after auth in the Hidden Mode settings to allow this.
